Moving day, hour by hour: what a professional crew actually does
A realistic timeline from the 7:30 AM walkthrough to the final signature — load order, truck tiering, protection, reassembly, and where the hours really go.
Customers are usually surprised by two things on move day: how much of the first hour is preparation rather than carrying, and how much of the total time is decided before anyone lifts anything. Here's the real sequence.
7:30 AM — Arrival and walkthrough
The crew lead walks every room with you. We confirm what's going, what's staying, what needs disassembly, and which items are fragile or high value. We note existing damage on the walls, floors, and furniture — protecting both of us.
7:45 AM — Protection goes down
8:00 AM — Disassembly and wrap
Beds, table legs, mirror mounts, and modular furniture come apart; hardware is bagged and taped to the piece it belongs to. Everything is blanket-wrapped and then stretch-wrapped over the blanket — never directly onto a finish for long transport.
8:30 AM – 12:00 PM — The load
Trucks are loaded in tiers, heaviest and squarest at the front wall: appliances, dressers, and case goods build the base. Boxes fill the tiers with the heavy small boxes low. Mattresses and mirrors go on the walls. Fragile, odd-shaped, and last-off items ride at the back. A well-tiered truck barely shifts over 100 miles; a poorly tiered one is where damage is born.
12:00 PM — Final sweep and transit
- Every closet, cabinet, the dishwasher, the attic hatch, the shed, and the basement get checked.
- You sign off that the home is empty of what's going.
- Travel time between homes is billed as working time.
1:00 PM – 4:00 PM — The unload
Protection goes down at the new house first, same as the old. Boxes are placed in the destination room written on the label — which is exactly why labeling for the new house matters. Furniture is placed where you point, and we'd rather move it twice than have you living with it in the wrong spot.
4:00 PM — Reassembly and walkthrough
- Beds and primary furniture reassembled with the hardware bagged to each piece.
- Protection pulled and debris removed.
- Final walkthrough room by room with you.
- Paperwork, payment, and any damage noted in writing on the spot.
